Ray Champ makes his home on a ranch in Northern Montana. Along with his wife and two sons, they raise beef cattle and performance horses on the ranch outside Cut Bank, Montana. Ray started announcing nearly 20 years ago at a small rodeo in his hometown of Crow Agency, Montana. At that point, announcing was more of a side hustle and not the career path, that Ray thought he would follow. However, it soon became apparent that with his knowledge of rodeo and love of the sport, the announcer’s booth is where Ray belonged! Ray’s whole life revolves around the sport of rodeo. His oldest son Talvin (16) is an accomplished tie down and team roper. Younger brother RW (9) is finding his stride in the arena as well. RW is just starting to rope and has aspirations of being a rodeo pickup man. The Champ family has an arena at home on Seville Flat where they welcome aspiring rodeo stars. Ray’s wife Jimi is the rodeo coach at Browning High School where she is the Agriculture teacher. By default, Ray has found himself cast as the assistant coach. The Champ arena is a safe, drug and alcohol free place, where kids can hone their roping and riding skills. They also get a healthy dose of life skills that will prepare them for life; not only the rodeo arena but the arena of life as well. Ray counts himself blessed to have a career in announcing. It allows him to continue to be in the sport that he loves...the big stage.
